White Tree, Spring
If you’re from Indiana, you know about Brown County.
It’s an hour south of Indianapolis.
The best way to get there is by taking the winding back roads
through places like Needmore,
Beanblossom, and, my favorite, Gnaw Bone.
Brown County is the gift of a tired old glacier that stopped
a few miles short of there,
having leveled everything northward
while leaving this beautiful contour
of hills, valleys, and lakes
along its advancing edge.
Spring and fall are especially lovely in that part of the
world.
This image comes from the state park at its center.
In any season but spring you hardly notice this tree,
and then only for a few short
days.
But when you’re a tree in bloom,
and a photographer is lurking
nearby,
that’s long enough.
