A study was done several years ago about what makes a perfect
picture.
People from all over the world were interviewed.
“If you were to hang a picture of your own choosing
on the wall,
what would you wish to see
in it?”
From culture to culture the responses were remarkably similar.
In the background, mountains.
In the foreground, water.
And in the middle ground, trees and woods, or at least something
green.
Clouds in the sky? Yes.
People in the picture? No.
I made this image in 1992 while on a trip to western Washington.
This was long before I read about that study.
Perhaps I was simply making my own response to that questionnaire
several years before it was
drawn up.
